HELPING YOU LIVE LIFE MORE BEAUTIFULLYHeadingBiote® hormone therapy can alleviate symptoms of hormone imbalance, so patients can feel and look their best. Quenby Erickson, DO, FAAD, FACMS is a Biote® physician in Chicago who has helped countless men and women improve their quality of life with this proven treatment.

What Is Biote®?

Biote® is a type of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) that can restore optimal levels of hormones like testosterone and estrogen.

Testosterone is not just a male hormone. It is a human hormone that both men and women need for optimal health. Women start to have declining testosterone levels in their late twenties and by forty, they have typically lost half of their natural testosterone production. This accounts for many of the “perimenopause” symptoms of weight gain, decreased sleep, fatigue and decreased libido and sexual satisfaction.

Men also suffer from declining testosterone levels with age. Symptoms such as decreased libido, decreased mental clarity and focus, decreased strength and sexual dysfunction are common and increase with age and declining levels of testosterone.

Biote® pellets are made from plant compounds and contain bioidentical estrogen or testosterone. Biote® pellets are a slow release of vital hormones and will be absorbed by the body over time, supplementing the patient’s natural production of testosterone or estrogen. As a result of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or estrogen replacement therapy with Biote®, patients often report:

  • Improved sleep
  • A more balanced mood
  • Greater mental clarity
  • Increased energy
  • Increased sex drive
  • More control over their weight
  • Reduced hair loss

Am I a Good Candidate for Biote® Therapy?

Biote® hormone therapy can be an ideal treatment option for many men and women seeking relief from hormone imbalance symptoms. BHRT with Biote® is most often recommended for women experiencing perimenopause or menopause symptoms and for men affected by low testosterone (Low-T) levels due to andropause.

Lab work is necessary to evaluate your hormone replacement needs. We will also review your medical history and speak with you about your goals for BHRT in order to assess your candidacy for Biote®.

What to Expect

During Treatment

The quick procedure is performed in the office with local anesthesia. The insertion site is usually the buttocks or waistline area. After anesthetizing the area with lidocaine, a small incision will be made and your customized dosage of bioidentical hormone pellets will be inserted underneath the skin. The incision is covered with an adhesive steri strip and a water-resistant clear bandage that will remain in place for 3 days for women and 7 days for men.

After Treatment

Women will keep the water-resistant bandage on for 3 days and men for 7 days post procedure. During this time, it is important to avoid lower body workouts and submerging the site in water; showering is fine. Mild post-treatment soreness at the insertion site can be expected and will subside as healing progresses. Your aftercare instructions will include detailed information regarding how to care for the incision site and when you can resume high intensity exercise. Patients can begin to notice results as soon as four weeks after pellet insertion, though it can take up to six months to fully restore and balance hormone levels. Two to four pellet insertion appointments per year are typically needed to keep hormones in balance.
