Is a consultation for AcuPulse™ necessary?

A consultation with Dr. Erickson is the first step of the AcuPulse™ treatment process. At this appointment, Dr. Erickson will evaluate the areas of concern and determine the optimal treatment plan for your needs. She often utilizes AcuPulse™ to target specific areas where more intense treatment is needed as part of a comprehensive, multi-modality approach to achieving your goals.

What to Expect

During Treatment

Before an AcuPulse™ laser treatment from Dr. Erickson, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area. After it has been given time to absorb and become effective, the excess will be removed and the skin will be disinfected. The doctor will scan the treatment areas with the handheld device and customize the settings accordingly.

Immediately after the laser treatment, gauze squares soaked in a cooling saline solution will be gently applied and allowed to remain in place for approximately 15 minutes to a half hour. Total treatment time is generally one to two hours but varies depending on each patient.

Downtime

Traditional CO2 laser resurfacing treatments can take three to four weeks to fully heal; the new AcuPulse™ procedure has less downtime. After AcuPulse™, healing time is approximately seven days to two weeks, during which a slight grid pattern may be lightly visible.

Patients will be provided with detailed instructions to promote healing and protect the treatment area from irritants and bacteria that can lead to infection. Abstaining from alcohol use is always a good idea while healing. For patients who smoke, it is important to avoid smoking during recovery—smoking interferes with the natural healing process of the skin.
