HELPING YOU LIVE LIFE MORE BEAUTIFULLYHeadingVein treatments are designed to reduce the appearance of vascular issues such as varicose veins, spider veins, and rosacea. At Erickson Cosmetic Dermatology & Lifestyle Medicine in Chicago, vein treatments are performed by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Quenby Erickson. Dr. Erickson utilizes advanced laser devices to provide noticeable aesthetic improvements, so you can regain your self-confidence and feel amazing in your own skin again.

What Is a Vein Treatment?

Vein treatments work to rejuvenate the skin and minimize the appearance of vascular conditions like:

  • Varicose veins
  • Spider veins
  • Rosacea
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Venous lake
  • Periorbital blue veins
  • Prominent blue veins on the face, neck, and décolletage
  • Telangectasia from HHT (Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangectasia)
  • Angiokeratoma of Fordyce on the scrotum or vulva
  • Hemangiomas
  • Birthmarks

Dr. Erickson frequently uses the Sciton ClearV® laser to target vascular concerns. However, she may recommend alternative or additional treatments, depending on the patient’s needs and aesthetic goals.

What to Expect During a Laser Vein Treatment

You’ll be provided with protective eyewear to use for the duration of the treatment session. Laser vein treatments are quick and convenient and can often be performed in as little as 5-10 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. For larger treatment sites, laser vein treatment sessions may take up to 30 minutes, and multiple sessions may be necessary. In order to minimize discomfort during ClearV® laser vein treatments, Dr. Erickson and her team use ice to cool the skin.

Candidacy for Laser Vein Treatments

Men and women of many ages who are bothered by visible blood vessels, such as those associated with varicose veins, spider veins, cherry angiomas, periorbital blue veins, venous lake, and rosacea, can be good candidates for laser vein treatments. ClearV® laser vein treatments are safe for all skin types and can be used on the face and neck, as well as throughout the body, including the chest, arms, legs, and abdomen.

What to Expect After a Vein Treatment

There is no downtime required after ClearV®, which means you can go right back to your normal daily activities. You will be advised to avoid exposing the treatment site to direct sunlight for several days while the veins are being absorbed by your body. This is because the treatment area will be more prone to pigmentation change and sunburn as it heals.

You may experience temporary mild redness and/or tenderness at the treatment site. Additionally, the skin at the treatment site may appear to be slightly bruised, which may cause the veins to look darker initially.

Bruising typically fades within a few weeks. It may take up to eight weeks to see the final results of your vein treatment. Additional follow-up treatments can be scheduled at eight-week intervals, if needed.

How Much Does a Vein Treatment Cost?

The cost of your vein treatment will depend on your cosmetic concerns, the size of the treatment area(s), and the number of treatment sessions required to achieve your desired outcome. Price details for your personalized treatment plan will be reviewed with you during your initial consultation with Dr. Erickson.
