What Is Restylane Silk?
Restylane Silk is an injectable dermal filler formulated to volumize the lips and smooth away fine perioral lines, also known as lipstick lines or smoker’s lines. Restylane Silk is composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring compound found in the skin. HA plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue volume and hydration.
As the skin ages, its natural production of hyaluronic acid slows down, causing a loss of volume in the lips as well as noticeable lip lines. By injecting Restylane Silk, your skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid is replenished, so you can enjoy visibly fuller lips and a reduction in perioral lines.
Best Candidates for Restylane Silk
This filler is recommended for men and women who are age 21 or older. Ideal candidates have thinning lips or perioral lip lines. What to Expect
Consultation
You will meet with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Quenby Erickson to learn more about the details of Restylane Silk treatment. She will first ask you about your aesthetic goals for your lips and the surrounding areas. She will then perform an examination of your lips, and photographs will be taken as a reference.
Dr. Erickson will tell you about every step of the treatment process, including preparation steps beforehand and aftercare directions. Patients are encouraged to ask any questions that they may have.
During Treatment
When you arrive for your Restylane Silk appointment, you will be taken to one of our private treatment rooms, each of which offers an intoxicating view of Chicago. After cleansing the treatment area, we will apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. It will take between 20 and 30 minutes for the topical anesthesia to take effect.
Once the area is numb, the anesthetic will be removed. The treatment site will then be cleansed with a surgical antiseptic. Dr. Erickson will then administer your injections via cannula or using fine gauge needles, depending on the artistic approach needed to best accomplish your desired results.
After Treatment
Most patients will see results immediately after undergoing this procedure. However, swelling is normal and can last several days. Occasionally, to mitigate swelling, a dose of prednisone may be administered during the treatment.
There is no restriction on physical activity after the treatment, and no recovery time is required. However, you will want to avoid exposing the treatment area to excessive sunlight, massage, and heat for the first 48 hours.
